Zen Ultraphone U1

Zen Ultraphone U1 launched for Rs. 4,999

Zen Mobiles, well known for its UltraTab series of budget tablets, has recently launched its first Android budget smartphone in India dubbed as the Zen Ultraphone U1 at a promising price of just Rs. 4,999. With its 15 years of experience in the mobile phone industry, Zen has certainly established itself in India as one of the most trusted brands, and the company is expanding their business by throwing their hat into the booming budget smartphone market in India.
According to the Managing Director of Zen Mobile, Mr. Deepesh Gupta, Zen Mobiles aims to deliver consumer friendly products with the latest innovations in place. With the Zen Ultraphone U1, they have done their bit for the rapidly evolving smartphone market in the country, by bringing a top-of-the-line product at an more-than-affordable price.
Here’s a quick look at specifications of Zen Ultraphone U1:
  • Dual Sim (GSM + GSM)
  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread
  • 3.5 inch (8.8cm)multi-touch capacitive HVGA display
  • 1GHz processor
  • 512MB internal storage, expandable up to 32GB via microSD card
  • 3.2 Mega pixel primary camera with digital-zoom and LED-flash
  • 1200 mAh battery with 5 hours of talk-time
The Zen Ultraphone U1 also comes preloaded with tons of useful applications like Skype, Facebook, G-talk, WhatsApp, MapMyIndia, nexGTv, and GaneshaSpeaks, which are extremely popular among the Indian Android users.
You can watch the launch trailer here:
Zen Ultraphone U1 is offering great features at a sub-5k price bracket, but the lack of 3G and a secondary camera is definitely going to be something that users might not love to miss out on. When it comes to multi-tasking, the internal memory will make things worse. In the sub-5k bracket, you can also consider LAVA IRIS 350 and Karbonn A1+. If you don’t mind increasing your budget a bit, you can also look at the Micromax Ninja 4.0.
The current Indian Smartphone market is loaded with tons of pocket-friendly smartphones from renowned companies like Micromax, Karbonn, and Spice. Zen is certainly a late entrant to the game and to catch up with the competition, they will have to produce world class smartphones at reasonable and strategic prices. The Zen Ultraphone U1 is certainly a good start, but I reckon they’ll need to do a little better to get eye-balls rolling!
So, what do you think of the new Zen Ultraphone U1? Are you happy with their first effort? Will you consider buying the smartphone? Have you bought one already; do let us know in the comments section below.
